Awesomer and awesomer

Is awesomer a word? If not I'm officially coining it for Dad.

Today I sat with Dad and we talked for about an hour and a half. We talked about his health, about the family, about politics... I don't think I can communicate how I feel. I don't have words. (Apparently not if I have to make up new ones!)

They are amping up the therapy for Dad to make sure he's ready to move to rehab. He worked so hard today, but even in the down times he's stretching his feet, working his arms. He's just doing every little thing he can to get stronger. The occupational therapist did great work with him today. At her suggestion the nurse made a little eye patch for Dad to cover his weaker eye and that made a huge difference in his ability to focus and see. He seems to think that with retraining and rethinking he will be able to see okay. (Joe and Dad are watching the Jazz game right now to practice. :))

Because of staffing issues, they haven't yet moved Dad to his new room, but they should get him resituated by tomorrow. And at this point we are thinking he will be back in Salt Lake by the end of next week at rehab.

Every day I think, God, if this is as good as he can be I'm grateful and it is enough. But every day there is so much more, each precious gift more extravagant and abundant than the last. It reminds me of the "Dayienu" part of the Jewish seder meal. "It would have been enough." But we've been given so much more.
